Die alte Frau hat erst einmal Angst vor dem Hund und auch Baxter kann die Rentnerin von Anfang an nicht leiden. Sehnsüchtig beobachtet er Tag für Tag das lebenslustige Ehepaar, das ins gegenüberliegende Haus eingezogen ist, während sich sein Frauchen immer mehr von der Außenwelt abkapselt. Als Madame Deville schließlich doch Vertrauen zu Baxter fasst, wird sie immer vereinnahmender und ist nur noch auf ihn fixiert. Um aus der unangenehmen Obhut der Alten zu entkommen, stößt Baxter sie von der Treppe und wird anschließend von dem jungen Pärchen aufgenommen ...
