Tief im Militärkomplex im Cheyenne Mountain beten Mutantenkulte eine uralte Gottheit an, die sie die heilige Detonation nennen - eine Kernexplosion, die im Stillstand gehalten wird. Ob ein Gott, ein wissenschaftliches Experiment oder ein unbeabsichtigtes Wunder - die Energie der Detonation könnte Colorado Springs für Hunderte von Jahren mit Strom versorgen oder es in einem Moment dem Erdboden gleich machen. Die Krieg führenden Kulte haben unterschiedliche Meinungen dazu, wem es erlaubt sein sollte, ihren Gott zu ehren und du wirst dir Zugang zum Altar freikämpfen müssen. Es ist eine letzte Mission für die Ranger in Colorado und das Ergebnis wird mit Sicherheit explosiv - wie es auch ausgehen mag.

"Cult of the Holy Detonation" erweitert die "Wasteland 3"-Erfahrung mit dem Zugang zum "Cheyenne Mountain"-Komplex, vollgepackt mit neuen Charakteren, Gegnern, herausfordernden Kampfbegegnungen und mächtigen neuen Waffen und Rüstungen. Die zielbasierten Begegnungen, die dem ohnehin stark taktischen rundenbasierten Kampf eine kreative Note verleihen, stellen deinen Trupp von Rangern auf die Probe wie nie zuvor. Die Ranger sehen sich schier unmöglichen Aufgabe gegenüber und müssen dabei Reaktoren abschalten, Lüftungssysteme säubern und defensive Gegenmaßnahmen einleiten, um sich gegen eine unendliche Flut an gefährlichen Mutanten und Maschinen im Inneren des verfallenen Militärbunkers zu stemmen.
