Marie St. Clair (Edna Purviance) möchte mit Ihrem Verlobten Jean nach Paris entfliehen. Am Abend der Abreise stirbt jedoch Jean's Vater, so dass Jean die Reise verschieben will. Marie steigt jedoch kurzerhand in den Zug ein. Ein Jahr später ist Marie zu Wohlstand gekommen, da sie eine Affäre mit dem reichen Junggesellen Pierre Revel hat. Auf dem Weg zu einer Party trifft sie allerdings unerwartet Jean wieder, der in Paris nun in einem Künstleratelier arbeitet. Das Wiedertreffen ist jedoch alles andere als glücklich.
