Auf die Idee, Heavy Metal und J-Pop miteinander zu verbinden, muss man erst einmal kommen ... Die japanische Girlband Babymetal hatte diese geniale Eingebung und entführt das Hellfest-Publikum anlässlich der Veröffentlichung des Albums The Other One in ihr völlig überdrehtes Manga-Universum.
Auf den ersten Blick wirken Babymetal wie ein typisch japanisches Mädchentrio: niedlich, zuckersüß, harmlos. Sobald man sie allerdings hört, sieht die Sache anders aus: Su-Metal, Moametal und Momometal sind nämlich die prominentesten Vertreterinnen des Kawaii-Metal, einer völlig abgespaceten Stilrichtung, die J-Pop und Metal miteinander verbindet.
Babymetal wurden 2010 ins Leben gerufen, und ihre Erfolgswelle ist seither ungebrochen. Die drei growlenden Girlies sind schon auf den renommiertesten Bühnen und Festivals der Welt aufgetreten und haben sämtliche Verkaufsrekorde gebrochen. Und bei jeder neuen Albumveröffentlichung wiederholt sich der Hype. Aktuell umfasst die Diskografie von Babymetal vier Alben: Babymetal (2014), Metal Resistance (2016), Metal Galaxy (2019) und The Other One (2023).
Auf ihrer Welttournee – die sie von Bangkok nach Los Angeles führt – machen Babymetal natürlich auch Halt beim Hellfest. Die drei Japanerinnen beehren eine der Mainstages und zeigen dort ihre faszinierende Kombination aus Wut, Niedlichkeit und perfekt getakteter Choreografie. Das muss man gesehen haben!
