Der Sozialarbeiter Eddie Garrick (Ludacris) hat mit Weihnachten nicht viel am Hut, seit er als Kind an den Feiertagen Schreckliches erleben musste. Weil seine Ex-Frau Allison (Teyonah Parris) verhindert ist, ist es in diesem Jahr jedoch an ihm, seine achtjährige Tochter Charlotte (Madison Skye Validum) an Heiligabend zu sich zu nehmen und zu verwöhnen. Seine Pläne werden durchkreuzt, als plötzlich Nick (Lil Rel Howery) einem Kamin entsteigt und sich als „der echte“ Weihnachtsmann vorstellt. Eddie glaubt ihm kein Wort, aber Charlotte ist schnell begeistert von dem schrulligen Mann und freundet sich mit ihm an, während Eddie ihn am liebsten einem Psychologen überantworten möchte. Im Verlauf des Abends mehren sich dann aber die Zeichen, dass Nick die Wahrheit sagt und das ungleiche Trio gerät in ein Abenteuer, das es nie vergessen wird.
