James McCullough ist eigentlich auf dem Weg nach Australien, doch es fehlt das nötige Kleingeld. Als im Goldgräberstädtchen Calendar der Posten des Sheriffs frei wird, weil die schießwütigen Brüder Joe, Tom und Luke Danby den bisherigen Amtsinhaber beseitigt haben, nimmt McCullogh den Job an. Damit schlägt er zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe: Er verdient sich ein Paar Dollar und kann gleichzeitig der hübschen Bürgermeistertochter Olly auf die Pelle rücken. Überraschenderweise gelingt es McCullough dann tatsächlich, für Ordnung in der Stadt zu sorgen und die Revolverhelden einzulochen.
