Marian (Bien de Moor), eine Krankenschwester um die 40, kümmert sich aufopferungsvoll um ihre Patienten. Ihre Hingabe geht so weit, dass sie glaubt, das Leiden Schwerkranker und Alter durch Sterbehilfe beenden zu müssen. Der Tod ist für sie der Moment der absoluten Intimität. Außerhalb des Krankenhauses lebt sie ein einsames und isoliertes Leben, das durch Kontrollsucht und Perfektion getrieben ist. Gelegentlich jedoch brechen ihre unterdrückten Gefühle durch. So auch an dem Tag, als sie einen Fremden (Lars Eidinger) im Bus beobachtet und ihm in eine Videothek folgt. Marian fantasiert über den Mann und geht mit ihm über einen Akt des gegenseitigen Voyeurismus eine Art Verbindung ein. Die plötzliche Intimität verwirrt, fasziniert und ängstigt sie. Sie erkennt, dass sie ihren Bedürfnissen nachgeben muss, selbst wenn menschliche Nähe ihren Preis hat.
