Im Mai 1945 erhält ein US-Kommando unter der Leitung von Captain John C. "Jack" Lee Jr. (Daniel Grogan) den Auftrag, hochrangige französische Geiseln aus dem abgelegenen Schloss Itter in den Tiroler Alpen zu befreien. Die Situation ist brisant, denn das Kriegsende steht kurz bevor – doch die Waffen-SS setzt alles daran, ihre Kontrolle nicht zu verlieren. Unerwartete Unterstützung kommt ausgerechnet von deutschen Wehrmachtssoldaten, die sich vom NS-Regime abgewandt haben. Trotz anfänglicher Skepsis arbeiten die amerikanischen Soldaten mit ihren ehemaligen Feinden zusammen. Als die Waffen-SS das Schloss umzingelt, kämpfen US-Truppen, französische Geiseln und deutsche Soldaten Seite an Seite – vereint im Überlebenskampf gegen einen gemeinsamen Gegner.
