Wenn 1054 das Jahr des Schismas zwischen katholischer und orthodoxer Kirche war, ist 2018 das Jahr des Schismas zwischen Batushka unter Krzysztof Drabikowski (alias Кристофор) und Batushka unter Bartłomiej Krysiuk (alias Варфоломей). Auf der Temple Stage des Hellfests versammeln sich die Jünger um Krzysztof Drabikowski – zu einem Gottesdienst, der sich gewaschen hat.
Einen besseren Ort könnten sie kaum finden, denn Batushka setzen voll und ganz auf die Kraft religiöser Bilderwelten. Mit ihrer Neuinterpretation christlicher Liturgie erschafffen sie eine faszinierende musikalische Nische, dies sich als „orthodoxer Black Metal“ bezeichnen lässt.
Ihren ersten ordentlichen Aufschlag landeten Batushka 2015 mit dem Erfolgsalbum „Литургия“ (Liturgiya), das die Band auf Anhieb zu einem Must-see bzw. Must-hear des polnischen Black Metal machte. Diesen Status zementierte die Formation durch packende Live-Auftritte mit der Anmutung einer großen Metal-Messe. Das Hellfest-Publikum hat sich von den dunklen Psalmen Batuschkas bereits bekehren lassen. Wie schauts an den Bildschirmen aus?

If 1054 was the year of schism between the Catholic and Orthodox churches, 2018 is the year of schism between Batushka under Krzysztof Drabikowski (aka Кристофор) and Batushka under Bartłomiej Krysiuk (aka Варфоломей). On the Temple Stage of the Hellfest, the disciples gather around Krzysztof Drabikowski - for a service that has been washed out.
They could hardly find a better place, because Batushka rely entirely on the power of religious imagery. With their reinterpretation of Christian liturgy, they create a fascinating musical niche that can be described as “orthodox black metal”.
Batushka made their first serious impact in 2015 with the successful album “Литургия” (Liturgiya), which immediately made the band a must-see or must-hear of Polish black metal. The formation cemented this status through thrilling live performances with the appearance of a large metal trade fair. The Hellfest audience has already been converted by Batuschka's dark psalms.
