Mit der für sie typischen Mischung aus Respektlosigkeit und dicker Hose lassen Cradle of Filth ihren Symphonic Black Metal auf der Temple Stage des Hellfests erdröhnen.
Die Band wurde 1991 in Suffolk gegründet und veröffentlichte drei Jahre später ihr Debütalbum The Principle of Evil Made Flesh. Anschließend entwickelten Cradle of Filth ihren Stil kontinuierlich weiter.
Ihre Musik bedient sich einer Vielzahl von Metal-Subgenres wie Black, Death oder Dark und erlaubt sich sogar hin und wieder einen elektronischen Akzent. Dazu gesellen sich die gequälten Vocals von Dani Filth, die in extreme Höhen aufschnellen können, um ebenso schnell zu höhlenmenschenartigen Grunts zu mutieren. Auch wenn einige ihrer Werke die Fans ratlos zurückließen, konnten die Alben Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa (2010), Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay (2017) und Existence is Futile (2021) die Band mit den Anhängern der ersten Stunde versöhnen.
Ob man sie nun vergöttert oder verabscheut, Cradle of Filth sind aus dem Black Metal nicht wegzudenken. Von Anbeginn hat die Formation um Bandleader Dani Filth die Bilderwelt des Gothic auf die Spitze getrieben und steht voll und ganz zu ihrem klischeehaften Erscheinungsbild, das ehrlich gesagt richtig Spaß macht. Wer Show liebt, kommt bei Cradle of Filth garantiert auf seine Kosten.
With their typical mix of irreverence and big pants, Cradle of Filth let their symphonic black metal roar on the Temple Stage of Hellfest.
The band formed in Suffolk in 1991 and released their debut album The Principle of Evil Made Flesh three years later. Cradle of Filth then continued to develop their style further.
Their music uses a variety of metal subgenres such as black, death or dark and even allows for an electronic accent every now and then. Added to this are Dani Filth's tortured vocals, which can soar to extreme heights and just as quickly mutate into caveman-like grunts. Even if some of their works left fans perplexed, the albums Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa (2010), Cryptoriana - The Seductiveness of Decay (2017) and Existence is Futile (2021) were able to reconcile the band with their early fans.
Whether you adore them or loathe them, Cradle of Filth are an integral part of black metal. From the very beginning, the formation around bandleader Dani Filth has taken the Gothic imagery to the extreme and is completely committed to their clichéd appearance, which is honestly really fun. Anyone who loves a show is guaranteed to get their money's worth at Cradle of Filth.
