Im Jahr 1887 erhält die junge Journalistin Nellie Bly von Joseph Pulitzer den Auftrag, sich in das berüchtigte Irrenhaus auf Blackwell’s Island einzuschmuggeln und dort die vermuteten Missstände im Umgang mit den Insassen aufzudecken. Bly ist schockiert, als sie feststellt, dass die Zustände in dem Sanatorium noch schlimmer sind, als sie vermutet hat. Und dass sich der dortige leitende Arzt Dr. Dent als formidabler Gegenspieler erweist, der Blys zehn Tage auf Blackwell’s Island zur Hölle auf Erden macht.

Intensive und um Realitätsnähe bemühte Adaption des Tatsachenromans von Nelly Bly.
